“The Gateway”

She was afraid of being left all alone at her disposal

There were tears of defeat within her eyes

Shackled through the culture rhythm that was enforced upon her through that proposal

She had to smile as she had no choice

For twenty-five years she endured it all

But once her daughters grew older, she gave her answer with poise

Everyone looked at her with disgust

“Did you hear?” were the murmurs around her

She had broken the patriarchal bound as it was a must

For her daughters to learn that they did not live to please anyone

As people will only talk today and tomorrow

But none will care and they will have no one.

“So stand today for yourself!” She said to them

“I was weak in the past but now I’ve got us

This is our gateway and this moment is our gem.”
